Caveman Cave Productions is home to old skool metal and rock sounds done with modern techniques. We offer studio engineering, mixing, mastering, "in the box" or at a facility of your choice, with an old skool attitude.
Does your production need some scorching heavy metal riffs or cavernous bass? The caveman has what you need, with over 20 years of experience playing bass and guitar in a classical, ethnic, or rock/metal setting.
We believe a great recording session starts with a well prepared musician using a properly maintained instrument. We offer coaching for advanced players and can do maintenance and set-up work on basses, guitars, and drums.
Who is the "caveman"?
Mathijs Ignoul was born in 1990 in the Belgian town of Maaseik. After developing a taste in guitar music in his preteens, he enrolled in the local music academy at the age of 11 after having studied privately for two years already. He would spend the next 11 years here studying classical guitar, ensemble, and music theory; graduating with (near) perfect scores for all three.
After finishing his master's degree in history at the university of Leuven, Mathijs decided to further expand on his already extensive knowledge of music by entering the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp. His focus would be on his instrument but also taking courses in analysis of the greats, ranging from Beethoven and Mozart to modern composers like Luciano Berio and Einojuhani Rautavaara (whose guitar works were the subject of his thesis).
It was in Antwerp that his formal education reached its peak, but also finally came to an end in 2018 when he gained his master's in the performing arts.
In contrast to his formal education in guitar, he is entirely self taught in the world of audio. Having started experimenting with recording as young as age 13, he would gradually expand his knowledge in this field, to be the perfect supplement to his performances.
